System
How Knowledge and practical skills connect
Paralives separates meta-knowledge from hands-on ability. Each Knowledge domain is a hidden umbrella stat that rises whenever you practise any practical skill underneath it. A higher Knowledge level accelerates learning for every other practical skill in the same domain — so leveling Guitar also makes Piano and Triangle easier to grind.
| Knowledge domain | Practical skills |
|---|---|
| Music | Guitar, Piano, Triangle |
| Food | Cooking |
| Fitness | Exercise, Dance |
| Technology | Graphic Design, Programming |
| Art | Painting |
| Repair | (none yet) |
| Science | Astronomy, Biology, Surgery |
Knowledge levels are invisible in the UI but affect XP multipliers. Community testing in EA 0.1.7c shows roughly +5% learning speed per Knowledge level for sibling skills.
How Knowledge domains boost your skills
Each Knowledge domain acts as a passive multiplier for the practical skills underneath it. When your Para reads a book, watches a tutorial, or completes a university course in a Knowledge domain, every practical skill in that domain gains XP faster. A Para with high Music Knowledge will level Guitar, Piano, and Triangle noticeably quicker than one starting from scratch.
Music domain covers Guitar, Piano, and Triangle. Attending concerts and listening to music helps.
Food domain covers Cooking. Trying new recipes and eating at restaurants earns domain XP.
Fitness domain covers Exercise and Dance. Gym sessions and outdoor sports contribute.
Technology domain covers Graphic Design and Programming. Using computers and tablets contributes.
Art domain covers Painting. Museum donations and gallery visits feed Knowledge XP.
Repair domain has no player-leveled skill yet. Modders often add custom repair skills here.
Science domain covers Astronomy, Biology, and Surgery. Lab visits and stargazing build domain Knowledge.
Why different sources report different skill counts
7 Knowledge domains + 12 practical skills = 19 total entries in the skill system. Some fan sites report 23 or more — those counts typically include mod-added skills or unconfirmed datamined entries. This guide covers only the 12 practical skills confirmed in EA build 0.1.7c.

Sims 4 → Paralives
Where your Sims 4 skills land in Paralives
Veteran Sims 4 players often search for skills that do not exist in Paralives. Here is the honest mapping for Early Access — what carries over, and what does not.
| Sims 4 skill | Paralives answer | |
|---|---|---|
| Writing | No standalone writing skill yet. Authoring books is handled by Story Cards and Paramaker memories rather than a skill bar. | |
| Handiness | Lives in the Repair knowledge domain. No player-leveled skill in EA; mod skills appear here. | |
| Charisma | Charisma is a personality stat raised by interactions, not a skill bar. The Sun-pack Story Cards still give +charisma buffs. | |
| Mischief | No mischief skill. Trolling and pranks belong to personality traits and certain Story Card outcomes. | |
| Parenting | No parenting skill bar. Parenting effectiveness is gated by personality, vibes and lifestage perks instead. | |
| Gardening | Tracked under Food / lot activities rather than a dedicated skill in EA. Countryside lots have the most room for the gardening update. | |
| Logic | Closest match is Programming (Technology) for code work, Astronomy and Biology for the lab-coat tracks. | Open closest match → |
| Photography | Folded into Graphic Design (Technology) and Painting (Art); no separate camera skill in EA. | Open closest match → |
How skill leveling works
Every skill caps at level 20. Higher levels unlock recipes, animation variations, and salary-multiplier perks for the linked career track.
Lifestages modify gain rate. Toddlers learn social and motor skills fastest; teens get a small boost on tech; adults grind technical skills with no penalty. Group activities add +3 in the Sun-pack window.
LEVELUPSKILL Guitar adds one level. Use SETSKILLLEVEL Guitar 10 to pin a target level. Early Access has no Steam achievements, so nothing is at stake but your save.
