Practice loop
How to level Painting
Place an easel, queue 'Paint'. Each painting takes 2-6 in-game hours depending on size. Larger canvases earn more XP and sell for more, but tie up the easel longer — small canvases are better for grinding XP per real-time minute. From level 5, 'Paint Masterpiece' unlocks for §3,000+ sale or museum donation. Donating to the museum gives +1 town standing per masterpiece, max +10 — town standing unlocks new lot tiers and discount perks.

Every playable skill in the Early Access build uses the same curve: level n costs (n − 1) × 8 + 10 XP, which adds up to 1,720 XP from level 1 to the cap of 20. The formula comes from the community wiki's skill infoboxes; the running total is our arithmetic on it.

Milestones
What you unlock at every tier
Skills cap at level 20. Highlights below mirror the Skin-system progression players reported during the first EA week. Treat them as expected rewards, not hard guarantees — patch 0.1.x may rebalance.
- Levels 1-4
Stick figures and small canvases. ~§40 per painting.
- Level 5
Unlock 'Paint Masterpiece' interaction. §3,000+ paintings become possible.
- Level 10
Art career promotion check. Unlock 'Commissions' from NPCs (§500-§2,000 per).
- Level 15
'Sculpt' unlocks (different prop, but Painting XP gates it). Marble and clay statues sell §5,000+.
- Level 20
'Master Artist' capstone. Museum donations give +2 town standing each. Career capstone tier.

Skip the grind with a console command
Open the console with Ctrl+F1 (or Cmd+F1 on Mac). Add one level with LEVELUPSKILL Painting, or pin a target with SETSKILLLEVEL Painting 10. Early Access ships no Steam achievements, so there is nothing to forfeit.

Common mistakes
Three pitfalls that stall this skill
Painting in poor lighting
Easels in dim rooms cap XP at 70%. Place near a window or under a ceiling lamp.
Selling masterpieces too early
Below level 10 in Art career, masterpieces sell for 50%. Wait until your career rank catches up.
Donating low-tier paintings to the museum
Only masterpieces give standing. Regular paintings clutter your inventory record without payoff.
