The short version
Draw walls first, select the Floors tool, click inside the room to paint a surface, then pick a swatch from the catalog. For outdoor patios use exterior floor swatches. For split heights, use the Separator tool before painting each section.
How to Build a Floor in Paralives
- 1
Enter build mode and close the room
Press B to open build mode. With the Walls tool, draw a closed room outline. Floors only appear after the room is fully enclosed.
- 2
Select the Floors tool
Open the Floors category in the build toolbar. Click once inside the room — Paralives highlights the floor plane you are about to paint.
- 3
Pick a floor swatch and paint
Choose a material from the catalog (wood, tile, concrete, grass for outdoors). Click or drag across the floor plane. Hold Shift while placing for half-grid alignment on awkward shapes.
- 4
Split levels before painting (optional)
If one room needs two floor heights, convert a wall segment to a Separator (three-dots menu on Walls), raise or lower one side, then paint each section separately. See the foundations guide for platform height.
- 5
Add outdoor patio flooring
For decks and patios, use exterior floor swatches on a raised platform or at ground level. Pair with the decks & patios tutorial for railings and stairs.
Common floor mistakes
Room looks hollow — no floor visible
Walls alone do not add flooring. You must paint with the Floors tool after the room is closed.
Outdoor grass bleeding indoors
Use interior swatches inside enclosed rooms and reserve grass or stone patio swatches for outdoor platforms.
Split-level floor height mismatch
Raise or lower the platform with the blue floor arrow before painting. Paint each Separator section independently.
