Careers

Job ranks, promotions and pay

Paralives has two completely different things people call a promotion, and only one of them happens on its own. Here is how ranks, Application Points, pay and strikes fit together — with the numbers that are verified and a clear list of the ones that are not.

The short version

There is no known rank cap

No official source states a maximum job rank, and players have pushed a single job past rank 200. The max rank 46 figure repeated across guide sites is the highest job posting anyone has found — Space Agency CEO — which sets a hiring bar, not a ceiling on how far you can climb inside a job. Climbing in place earns you an Upgrade Point per successful work day; moving to a better job means applying to a posting with enough Application Points, because Paralives never promotes anyone automatically.

Two different mechanics

Ranking up is not the same as changing jobs

Almost every confused question about Paralives careers comes from these being mixed up.

Ranking up in place

Finish a work day with satisfying performance and you have a chance at one Upgrade Point. Spend it in the Occupations panel on either a higher Job Rank — a straight raise — or on unlocking a Job Perk. This is the part that happens through normal play.

Moving to a better job

This never happens on its own. A Nurse is not promoted into a Doctor; careers here are non-linear. To change position you read job postings, meet the Application Points bar and apply. Postings refresh every in-game day, so the job you want may take a few days to appear.

Pay

How daily pay is calculated

Every posting has a base salary and a per-rank increment. A rank-1 posting pays exactly its base, so the daily figure is base plus the increment for each rank above the first. The postings below were each checked twice — against the published formula and against an independently reported salary.

Job postingEmployerRankFormulaDaily pay
Gameplay ProgrammerParallel Studios1$250 + $10 × (1 − 1)$250
Full-Stack DeveloperMapple Web Inc.11$300 + $15 × (11 − 1)$450
Front-End DeveloperMapple Web Inc.12$300 + $15 × (12 − 1)$465
Technical DirectorParallel Studios25$350 + $20 × (25 − 1)$830
Cybersecurity EngineerClickWork Industries29$350 + $20 × (29 − 1)$910
Space Agency CEOSpace Agency46$600 + $50 × (46 − 1)$2,850

Careful with formulas copied from elsewhere: written as "base + increment × Rank" they overshoot every observed salary by one increment.

Getting hired

Application Points

A posting's Application Point requirement equals its rank, and rank-1 jobs need none at all. Points come from relevant skill levels, experience in a similar career elsewhere, Stats, and even school grades — in Software Development, a Tech Lab or Math grade of C or better contributes. What matters is the overall total, not hitting every listed line, though some positions do demand a minimum in a skill that is fundamental to the job. Clear the bar and you are hired outright; there is no interview.

  • +3Applying to another position at your current employer is worth a flat +3 Application Points.
  • +5A Para with the Jester Vibe occasionally gets a random +5 on an application.
  • The Serious Vibe contributes to nearly every career track, which makes it the most broadly useful personality for job hunting.

Performance

What decides a good work day

Performance shows as a percentage in the Occupations panel and decides whether a day ends with an Upgrade Point. The official factors are the Para's mood at work, their relationships with coworkers and managers, progress in some skills, and attendance. Patch 0.1.5 added a performance penalty for being late — cancelling the Go To Work action costs you. The exact formula and the weight of each factor have never been published, but several perks state their figures outright:

PerkStated effect
RecognitionJob performance rises by an amount equal to the Para's current rank — it scales with you.
Serious Traininghas a cost+30% job performance, but $200 is invoiced by mail every week.
Second Monitor+15% job performance. Calm Neighbor gives the same figure.
Sad Worker+5% job performance for each Sad emotion the Para is carrying.
Idea Person+2% job performance per Creativity point.
No Time to Rest+3% job performance per vacation day banked.
Completely Legal Transactionrank 10+has a costPay $5,000 for +100% job performance lasting five days. Rank 10 or higher only.
I Am PerformanceCEO only+30% job performance. CEO positions only.

Strikes and getting fired

Sustained bad performance earns a strike, and enough strikes get the Para fired. The Storyteller panel exposes a Job Performance Threshold for Strikes, defaulting to 10 across all three presets. Quitting is always available from the Occupations panel, but quitting mid-shift means walking out with no pay for that day.

What the console can and cannot do here

This is worth knowing before you go hunting: there is no cheat that sets a job rank or work performance. We checked all 101 documented commands — nothing matches rank, performance, salary or upgrade points. The developers have said as much, that they do not automatically create a cheat for every feature. What you do get is ENDWORKDAY, which settles a work day immediately: salary paid and an Upgrade Point granted if the performance check passes. Repeating it is the closest thing to fast-tracking a rank.

Not yet verified

We would rather leave these blank than fill them with plausible numbers:

  • Whether a hard rank cap exists at all. The evidence shows nobody has hit a wall by rank 200 — that is not the same as proving there is no limit.
  • Whether different careers have their own separate ceilings.
  • The performance formula and how much each factor weighs.
  • How large the late-to-work penalty is. The patch notes confirm it exists, not its size.
  • How many strikes get a Para fired. The value is clearly a real variable — one perk lowers max strikes by 1 — but the baseline is undocumented.
  • How strikes clear. One guide reports a 14-day expiry and a Story Card that removes one, but no second source confirms it.
  • Whether ranks can ever go down. No source mentions demotion, and no cheat exists for it either.
  • How many Application Points a skill level is worth. There is no published conversion.

Ranks and promotions FAQ

Is there a limit to job rank in Paralives?
No known limit. One player publicly reported reaching rank 200 in a single job, and the top answer in that thread was that no cap appears to exist. The 'rank 46' figure that circulates is the highest job posting found so far — Space Agency CEO — which is a hiring requirement, not a ceiling.
How do I get promoted in Paralives?
Two ways, and they are different. Finish work days with good performance to earn Upgrade Points, then spend them on a higher rank (a raise) or a Job Perk. To actually change position you have to apply to a new job posting with enough Application Points — the game never promotes you automatically the way The Sims does.
How much does a job pay per day?
Base salary plus the per-rank increment for every rank above the first. A rank-1 posting pays exactly its base. For example Cybersecurity Engineer at ClickWork Industries is base $350 with $20 per rank, so at rank 29 it pays $910 a day.
How many Application Points do I need?
As many as the posting's rank — a rank-12 job needs 12. Rank-1 jobs need none. Applying internally at your current employer adds a flat 3, and the Jester Vibe sometimes adds a random 5.
Is there a cheat to raise job rank?
No. None of the 101 documented console commands sets rank, performance or upgrade points. ENDWORKDAY is the closest: it settles the work day, paying salary and granting an Upgrade Point if the performance check passed.
Can my Para be demoted?
No source has ever reported a rank going down, and there is no console command for it either. Bad performance leads to strikes and eventually to being fired, not to a lower rank.
