Paras & Families

This page is about the Paras who already live in Melino and the eight lifestages they move through — if you want to build your own, the Paramaker guide covers the character creator. All 8 lifestages, the household mascots, and the guides for growing a family — pregnancy, toddlers, school runs and the Story Cards that tie a household together.

Townies, explained

How townies work in Paralives

The most common Reddit and Steam questions about Melino's population — answered with what the developers have actually said.

Yes, townies are randomly generated

Melino ships with 28 authored 'lore' households, and the game randomly generates additional townies on top of them. The official Patreon reward was literally 'name a randomly generated townie' — random generation is the mechanism, not a myth.

Many townies are real Patreon supporters

The team has created almost 1,000 townies for its highest-tier patrons (official news post, January 16, 2026). The qualifying rewards were 'name a randomly generated townie' and 'get recreated as a townie'; the $50/month Legend tier behind them closed to new patrons on July 31, 2025.

Dead townies are not replaced (yet)

There is currently no repopulation: when a townie dies, no fresh one spawns to take their place. Repopulation is planned for later in Early Access — so the town slowly empties if you let generations pass.

Townies age and die

Every townie moves through the same eight lifestages as your own Paras, on the same clock. Patch 0.1.3 even added a rule that townie requests automatically fail when the townie passes away.

They hold real scheduled jobs

Preset Paras work set shifts at rabbit-hole workplaces — Sebastian cooks at La Tavola di Nonna Fri–Sun 17:00–22:00, Maggie is at the Space Agency Mon–Fri 8:00–15:00 — and they hand out townie requests like 'Clean the beach'.

No story progression

Inactive households do not autonomously marry, move or have kids in the current build. Romance with a townie is always player-initiated — which is exactly how the 'marry Sebastian, strand Eli' situation happens.

Still unverified: how many Patreon townies spawn per save, whether the ~1,000 figure counts named-random and likeness townies together, and a single-player report of dead Patreon Paras respawning. Per-household district assignments are unpublished too — that is why every profile flags district as unverified.

Townie FAQ

Are Paralives townies randomly generated?
Yes — the game randomly generates townies on top of the 28 authored 'lore' households. The nuance: many generated townies carry the names or likenesses of Patreon supporters, because the top Patreon rewards were 'name a randomly generated townie' and 'get recreated as a townie'. Almost 1,000 such townies have been delivered, per the official news post of January 16, 2026.
Do dead townies get replaced?
Not currently. There is no repopulation in the Early Access build — when a townie dies, no new one spawns. The developers say repopulation is planned for later in Early Access.
Do townies age and die in Paralives?
Yes. Townies move through the same eight lifestages as your own Paras and can die. Patch 0.1.3 even added a rule that townie requests automatically fail if the townie passes away.
Do townies get married or have kids on their own?
No. The current build has no story progression: inactive households never autonomously marry, move or have children. Any romance with a townie is initiated by you — which is also how the 'marry Sebastian, strand Eli' situation happens.
How many preset households are in Melino?
wiki.gg's list of lore households confirms 28 residential households at the start of a default save, plus a large pool of randomly generated townies. The wiki calls its list a work in progress and competitor counts differ, so treat 28 as the confirmed floor, not the total.
