The short version
A roof that won't hide when you drop the walls was usually placed on the floor by accident (often with Shift held) instead of on the ceiling — delete it and redraw it on the floor above. A missing ceiling can be restored with the RestorePlatform icon or by redrawing the walls of that room. To build a roof, go up one floor, open Roofs & Chimneys, pick a style and drag it over the room.
How to Fix and Build Roofs in Paralives
- 1
Fix a roof that won't disappear
If a roof stays visible in no-walls view (the house looks like a dollhouse), it was most likely placed on the ground floor instead of the ceiling — this happens when you place it while holding Shift. Select that roof, delete it, go up one floor, and redraw it so it anchors to the ceiling. Reloading the save also clears the occasional display glitch.
- 2
Restore a missing ceiling
If a room lost its ceiling (so you can't place ceiling lamps), click the floor of that room twice to select the ceiling plane, then click the RestorePlatform icon at the bottom of the screen. If that fails, redraw the room's walls on the floor below over the existing ones — the game treats it as a new room and regenerates the ceiling.
- 3
Go up a floor and open the Roofs tool
Close your room with walls first. Press Page Up (or the up arrow) to move to the floor above the room, then open the Roofs & Chimneys category in the build toolbar. Roofs always sit on the level above the walls they cover.
- 4
Pick a style and place the roof
Choose from the 18 roof styles, then drag the roof out over the room footprint until it covers it. Use the arrows to adjust height, width and pitch, and hold Shift while dragging an edge to extend the overhang. Recolor with the Roof Paint tool.
- 5
Handle complex shapes and chimneys
For irregular or multi-wing floor plans, the auto roof may clip — snap several smaller roof sections together at matching pitches instead of forcing one large piece. Chimneys and fireplaces live in the same Roofs category and their height is adjustable too.

Common roof mistakes
Roof placed with Shift held
Holding Shift drops the roof onto the floor, not the ceiling, so it never hides. Place it without Shift on the level above the room.
Deleting walls before fixing the ceiling
Deleting the floor/walls first can stop the ceiling regenerating. Redraw walls over the existing ones instead of clearing the room.
Forcing one roof over a complex shape
Irregular plans clip badly. Build the roof from smaller sections snapped together at the same pitch.
