TL;DR
What this skill does
Practical skill in the Science knowledge — and the outlier of the current build. Its in-game description says to improve it by studying on the computer, yet no dedicated training object has been confirmed: the community wiki lists certain Occupation Perks as the only documented way to raise it. Five careers across Healthcare and Science list it as an associated skill.
Level up guide
How to Level Up Biology in Paralives
The honest answer for the current build: study on the computer, as the skill's own in-game description says, and pick up Biology-raising Occupation Perks from jobs and school. No microscope, dissection or field-study interaction has been confirmed in Early Access — guides that tell you to grind one are working from pre-release footage.
Mind 2+ adds +1 learning speed to Biology (0 Mind is −1 overall). Higher Science Knowledge accelerates it — Astronomy is the easiest way to build the same knowledge. Since patch 0.1.6, participating in town events boosts skill learning speed.
Don't follow older guides to a microscope prop that isn't in the game. Don't neglect Science Knowledge — it is the multiplier behind every Science skill. And don't create a science Para with 0 Mind unless you want the −1 learning-speed penalty.
Who it's for
Who should level Biology first
- Healthcare or Science career planners — five careers list Biology as an associated skill.
- Students: a grade C+ in the Biology school subject banks Application Points for both industries.
- Completionists chasing the Town Hall mastery wall — Roberto Robert holds Biology at level 15.
Practice loop
How to level Biology
What is documented: the in-game description points at studying on the computer, and job or school Occupation Perks can raise Biology directly. Two verified speed-ups: a Mind stat of 2+ adds +1 learning speed to Biology (0 Mind means −1 to everything), and higher Science Knowledge makes it progress faster — leveling Astronomy on the side feeds the same knowledge. What is not documented: any microscope, dissection or field-study interaction. Older guides list those; none exists in the current build.
Leveling numbers
Biology XP table — every level, costed
Every playable skill in the Early Access build uses the same curve: level n costs (n − 1) × 8 + 10 XP, which adds up to 1,720 XP from level 1 to the cap of 20. The formula comes from the community wiki's skill infoboxes; the running total is our arithmetic on it.
| Level | XP cost | Running total |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 10 | 10 |
| 2 | 18 | 28 |
| 3 | 26 | 54 |
| 4 | 34 | 88 |
| 5 | 42 | 130 |
| 6 | 50 | 180 |
| 7 | 58 | 238 |
| 8 | 66 | 304 |
| 9 | 74 | 378 |
| 10 | 82 | 460 |
| 11 | 90 | 550 |
| 12 | 98 | 648 |
| 13 | 106 | 754 |
| 14 | 114 | 868 |
| 15 | 122 | 990 |
| 16 | 130 | 1,120 |
| 17 | 138 | 1,258 |
| 18 | 146 | 1,404 |
| 19 | 154 | 1,558 |
| 20 | 162 | 1,720 |
The source documents the formula, not whether each figure covers the level itself or the step into it — treat single-XP differences as noise. And note the game's own disclaimer: not all levels unlock something new yet.
Milestones
What you unlock at every tier
Skills cap at level 20. Highlights below mirror the Skin-system progression players reported during the first EA week. Treat them as expected rewards, not hard guarantees — patch 0.1.x may rebalance.
- Levels 1-4
10 XP on the shared curve. No level-1 unlock is documented.
- Level 5
42 XP at this level. No unlock documented — treat any 'level 5 dissection' claim from older guides as pre-release footage, not the EA build.
- Level 10
82 XP at this level. No unlock documented.
- Level 15
122 XP at this level. Roberto Robert — the most skilled Para on the Town Hall mastery wall — holds Biology at 15; beat his score to take his spot.
- Level 20
162 XP at this level, 1,720 XP total. The cap. The game's own UI notes that not all levels unlock something new yet.
Career path
Where this skill pays off
Paralives EA shipped 11 career domains. The ones below pull directly from this skill — salary tiers, promotion checks, and Occupation Perks scale with it.
Five careers list Biology as an associated skill: General Practitioner (ClickWork Industries), Programmer (Hospital) and System Engineer (Hospital) on the Healthcare side — the latter two paired with Programming — and Science Teacher (High School) plus CEO (Space Agency) on the Science side. Separately, a grade C or better in the Biology school subject grants Application Points when applying to either industry.
Cheat path
Skip the grind with a console command
Open the console with Ctrl+F1 (or Cmd+F1 on Mac). Add one level with LEVELUPSKILL Biology, or pin a target with SETSKILLLEVEL Biology 10. Early Access ships no Steam achievements, so there is nothing to forfeit.
LEVELUPSKILL Biology— adds one level instantly.SETSKILLLEVEL Biology 5— sets to level 5.SETSKILLLEVEL Biology 20— max out the skill.

Common mistakes
Three pitfalls that stall this skill
Hunting for a microscope
No microscope, dissection or field-sample interaction exists in the current build. Computer study (per the in-game description) and Occupation Perks are the documented routes.
Ignoring Science Knowledge
Higher Science Knowledge speeds up Biology. Level Astronomy alongside — it feeds the same knowledge.
Skipping the Mind stat
Mind 2+ gives +1 learning speed to Biology; Mind 0 gives −1 to everything. Set it in the Paramaker before a science-heavy save.
