Paralives language settings

Where the language dropdown lives, which 8 languages Early Access officially supports, what to do when your selection will not stick, and the community route for unsupported languages like Traditional Chinese.

Quick answer

How to change the language

Press EscSettingsGeneral tab → Display section → Language dropdown. Every language is listed in its own language (Deutsch, Français, 简体中文…), so you can find yours even while the game shows one you cannot read. Restart the game if the change does not apply immediately.

Only the in-game path above is officially documented. Some guides point to Steam → Properties → Language, but that route is unverified for Paralives — use the in-game dropdown.

Officially supported

The 8 interface languages

The Steam store language table and the official FAQ agree: Early Access 0.1.6b ships interface translations in exactly these 8 languages.

LanguageShown in the dropdown as
EnglishEnglish
FrenchFrançais
ItalianItaliano
GermanDeutsch
PolishPolski
Portuguese (Brazil)Português (Brasil)
Spanish (Latin America)Español (Latinoamérica)
Simplified Chinese简体中文

All 8 are interface only — there is no full audio and no subtitle track in any language. Paras speak Parli, a fictional gibberish, so there is no voiced dialogue to subtitle.

Troubleshooting

Language not working or not sticking?

Work through these in order. Localization bugs are real in Early Access — but most reports come down to one of the causes below.

Update to the latest patch first

Localization is patched iteratively. Patch 0.1.6 shipped 'Various Localization Fixes' for broken strings not displaying text properly in some languages, plus typo and untranslated-string fixes; patch 0.1.2 fixed Chinese input for Para names in Paramaker text fields and various missing English localized strings. Missing or buggy strings on an outdated build are the most common cause.

Game installed on a different drive than Windows

Hotfix 0.1.2b fixed a real bug: when the game was installed on a different drive than the OS, players could not change the display language or install mods. Every current build includes the fix — but if you are somehow on a very old build, this is why.

Restart after switching

Players still report the language selection not sticking, especially right after updates. Switch the dropdown, exit the game completely and relaunch before concluding it is broken.

Community workaround — unofficial

Community-sourced, not an official fix: players report that copying the desired <Lang>.mod folder from Steam/steamapps/common/Paralives/Main.mod/LanguageMods into %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Paralives\Paralives forces the language. Try the official steps first, and remove the copied folder once a patch fixes the underlying issue.

Still broken? Report it

If none of the above helps, report it through the channels in the reporting section below — the studio iterates on localization every patch, and the fixes hub covers broader troubleshooting.

Not on the list

Traditional Chinese and other unsupported languages

Traditional Chinese is not supported — the Steam store page viewed in Traditional Chinese states 不支援繁體中文. Russian, Indonesian and Spain-Spanish are also frequently requested but unsupported as of Early Access 0.1.6b.

The official FAQ answers 'Will Paralives be available in my language?' with the same 8 languages and adds: 'More languages could be added in the future.' That is the entire official position — no timeline and no committed list.

Community translation mods

Patch 0.1.3 expanded the in-game font specifically 'allowing modders to create mods that translate the game in more languages'. For languages the studio does not ship, fan-made translation mods are the unofficial route — see how to install mods. Coverage and quality vary by mod; they are community work, not studio translations.

Found an error

Report translation errors

The studio fixes localization bugs in nearly every patch — 0.1.6 alone repaired broken strings in several languages. Three official channels:

  • The official feedback tool at paralives.com/gamefeedback — the direct line for translation errors and missing strings.
  • The Steam Bug Reporting subforum — best for bugs like the language selection not sticking.
  • The official Discord — fastest for a quick check on whether other players see the same string.

FAQ

Does Paralives have my language?
Early Access ships interface translations in 8 languages: English, French, Italian, German, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish (Latin America) and Simplified Chinese. If yours is not on that list, it is not officially supported — see the unsupported-languages section above for the community mod route.
Does Paralives have voice acting or subtitles?
No, in any language. Paras speak Parli, a fictional gibberish language, so there is no voiced dialogue to dub or subtitle. All 8 supported languages are interface translations only.
Why is my language not applying or reverting?
Most cases resolve by updating to the latest patch (0.1.6 fixed broken strings in several languages), then switching the dropdown and fully restarting the game. A historical bug — game installed on a different drive than the OS blocking language changes — was fixed in hotfix 0.1.2b. If it still will not stick, report it via paralives.com/gamefeedback or the Steam Bug Reporting subforum.
Will more languages be added?
Possibly — the official FAQ says 'More languages could be added in the future', and that is the full statement: no timeline and no committed list. Patch 0.1.3 expanded the in-game font so modders can build translation mods in the meantime.
Can I play Paralives in Traditional Chinese?
Not officially — the Steam store page viewed in Traditional Chinese states 不支援繁體中文, and the supported list has Simplified Chinese only. The unofficial route is a community translation mod, which the 0.1.3 font expansion was designed to enable.
Does changing the language affect my saves or mods?
No. The display language is an interface setting — it changes UI text only, not save data. Language mods are ordinary mods, so the usual mod rules apply to them, but the built-in dropdown touches nothing outside the interface.
