EA / Maxis·Legacy — Sims 2 (2004), Sims 3 (2009)·Updated 2026
The verdict
Paralives feels closer in spirit to Sims 3 — open world, slower pace, no per-lot loading — than to the more theatrical Sims 2. One caveat: every Paralives workplace is still a rabbit hole in Early Access, so careers play out off-screen the way Sims 3's rabbit-hole jobs did.
Current statusAs of August 2026, the Legacy Collections remain the official way to replay Sims 2 and Sims 3 — patched for modern hardware on EA's store, with nothing new coming from EA for either classic.

Paralives vs The Sims 2 / 3 (legacy): FAQ
- Is Paralives like The Sims 3 with its open world?
- In spirit, yes. Paralives uses an open neighbourhood with no lot-loading screens and a slower, sandbox pace, which is the part of Sims 3 fans miss most. The scale is smaller than Sims 3's full town for now.
- Does Paralives have a personality system like Sims 2?
- It has a trait-driven personality system that is still being deepened. The Sims 2's memory and aspiration depth is widely considered the genre benchmark, and Paralives is working toward that kind of character reactivity.
- Can I still play The Sims 2 and 3 in 2026?
- Yes, the Legacy Collections are sold on EA's store, though older versions can need compatibility tweaks on modern hardware. Paralives runs natively today if you want the same cozy sandbox without the fiddling.
- Are The Sims 2 and 3 worth replaying in 2026?
- If you grew up on them, yes — the Legacy Collections run on modern Windows with compatibility patches, and nothing has replaced their specific flavours (Sims 2's personality depth, Sims 3's open world). They are older games, though: dated UI, no grid-free build.
- Which one does Paralives resemble more: Sims 2 or Sims 3?
- Sims 3, for the open world and slower pace — but Paralives also has genetics depth that scratches the Sims 2 itch. Think of it as the best of both, minus a decade of expansions.
