The short version
Safe, sick or dead
Of the 20 mushrooms in Paralives, 16 are safe to eat and 4 are not. Three cause mushroom poisoning, which behaves like the game's Digestive System Virus, and the Destroying Angel kills a Para outright. Eating a second toxic mushroom before the first is treated is also fatal.
Do not eat
The 4 mushrooms that will hurt a Para
Foraged mushrooms are edible by default, so nothing stops a Para from eating a bad one. Learn these four names; the rest of the set is harmless. All four can still be sold and donated safely — the risk is only in eating them.
Destroying Angel
Eating one is instant death. There is no illness phase and no window to seek treatment.
Black Amanita
Eating one causes mushroom poisoning. A second toxic mushroom before treatment or recovery is fatal.
Fly Agaric
Eating one causes mushroom poisoning. A second toxic mushroom before treatment or recovery is fatal.
Morel
Eating one causes mushroom poisoning. A second toxic mushroom before treatment or recovery is fatal.
The Morel is the trap. Real morels are a prized edible once cooked, so players assume this one is safe — in Paralives it causes poisoning, and at $400 it is also one of the more tempting mushrooms to pick up.
Treating mushroom poisoning
Mushroom poisoning presents like the game's Digestive System Virus: the Para tires faster, needs the bathroom more often, has their Hunger need ignored, and picks up the Sick emotion. There are three ways to clear it.
- Have a Para with the Good at Taking Care of Others social perk make them chicken noodle soup.
- Consult a Para who works in Healthcare.
- Send them to the Hospital for treatment.
- Waiting it out is possible, but a second toxic mushroom eaten before recovery kills the Para — treat it rather than gambling.

Mushrooms FAQ
- Which mushrooms are poisonous in Paralives?
- Three cause poisoning — Black Amanita, Fly Agaric and Morel — and the Destroying Angel kills a Para instantly. The other sixteen are safe to eat.
- What happens if a Para eats a Destroying Angel?
- They die on the spot. Unlike the three poisonous mushrooms there is no illness phase and no window to seek treatment.
- Is the Morel safe in Paralives?
- No. Real-world morels are edible once cooked, but in Paralives the Morel is one of the three mushrooms that cause poisoning.
- Can poisonous mushrooms still be donated to the museum?
- Yes. Toxicity only matters if a Para eats one — every mushroom in the set can be sold or donated safely, and some are asked for by Community Center food bundles.
- How much are mushrooms worth in Paralives?
- Commons sell for $20, Uncommons for $60 and Rares for $400. The five Rares are Black Trumpet, Morel, Puffball, Truffles and Turkey Tail.
