TL;DR — Rags to Riches in one paragraph
Move one adult Para onto an empty residential lot and run SETMONEY 0 once to zero out the bank — that's the only console command you'll touch. No other money cheats, no gifts, no inheritance. Everything you own has to be paid for with earned Paradimes. Work a career, level a money skill, sell what you make, and climb to 1,000,000 to win.
- Empty lot + SETMONEY 0 to start broke
- No money cheats after that one command
- Every Paradime must be earned, not gifted
- Reach 1,000,000 Paradimes to finish
The six core rules
All six map cleanly onto Paralives Early Access — nothing here depends on a feature the game hasn't shipped.
- 1
Start with nothing
Move a single adult Para onto the cheapest empty residential lot in Melino. Open the console with Ctrl+F1 (Cmd+F1 on Mac) and run SETMONEY 0 once. No house, no furniture — your Para sleeps on the ground until they can afford a bed.
- 2
One money command, then never again
SETMONEY 0 at the start is the only money cheat allowed. PRINTMONEY, MAKEITRAIN, JACKPOT, PIGGYBANK, LOTTERY and any other SETMONEY are banned for the rest of the run.
- 3
Only earned income counts
Wages, skill payouts, sold paintings, garden produce and cooked goods are all fair game. Gifts from other Paras, found money and any non-earned windfall must be refused or deleted — they don't count toward the million.
- 4
Build only from earnings
You can only place walls, furniture and decor you've paid for with earned Paradimes. Build cheats that grant free items are out; rotation and free-placement, which don't touch your balance, are fine.
- 5
No moving in wealthier Paras
Don't marry or move in a Para to inherit their funds. A partner who works and earns is welcome; one moved in purely for their bank balance breaks the spirit of starting from nothing.
- 6
One save, no scumming
Single save file start to finish. Don't reload to undo a failed interview, a big bill or a kitchen fire. EDITCHARACTER is allowed only for visual fixes, never to hand yourself skills or a career rank.
Wealth ladder
From 0 to 1,000,000 Paradimes
Five checkpoints from broke to millionaire. The early rungs are the hardest; income snowballs once your main skill is maxed.
0 → 1,000: survive the first week
No bed, no fridge. Get a Rank 1 job that needs zero Application Points — Service or Food — and apply through the in-game newspaper the first morning. The first 1,000 Paradimes buys a bed, a cheap fridge and a stove.
1,000 → 10,000: a roof and a skill
Wall in a one-room shelter and start leveling a money skill — Painting, Cooking or Gardening. Sell your first paintings or surplus crops. That's roughly one PIGGYBANK's worth, earned the hard way.
10,000 → 100,000: a real career
Bank Application Points from your skill and pivot into a higher-rank career. Promotions multiply your salary, and the Level 15 skill perk doubles related income. This tier is the long grind — about ten MAKEITRAINs earned legitimately.
100,000 → 500,000: stack income streams
Run a career and a side hustle at once. Paralives lets a Para hold several jobs if shifts don't overlap; pair that with a maxed creative skill selling high-value paintings or recipes.
500,000 → 1,000,000: the millionaire push
The final half-million comes fastest — skills are maxed and your salary is high. Reinvest in objects that raise skill gains, keep the bills paid (CLEARBILLS is off-limits), and bank the surplus until you cross a million.
Strategy
The fastest legitimate income paths
No cheats means optimising the systems that already exist. These four moves carry most runs.
Take a zero-AP job on day one
Rank 1 Service and Food jobs need no Application Points — apply via the newspaper or walk into a Melino workplace immediately. Day-one income is what gets you off the ground and into a bed.
Pick a money skill early
Painting, Cooking and Gardening all convert time into Paradimes without a commute. Level one alongside your job; the sold output often beats your wage by the mid-game.
Chase the Level 15 income perk
At Level 15 a skill unlocks the perk that doubles its related income. Push your main money skill to 15 before spreading thin — the ceiling is Level 20, but 15 is the payday breakpoint.
Hold multiple jobs
If shift schedules don't overlap, one Para can work two jobs. Stack a morning Service shift with an evening Food gig to double wage income while your skill output sells in the background.
Fail conditions (when the run is over)
All three are self-inflicted — the challenge is really about discipline.
A banned money cheat is used
Any money command after the opening SETMONEY 0 ends the run — PRINTMONEY, MAKEITRAIN, JACKPOT, PIGGYBANK, LOTTERY or another SETMONEY. Hard fail.
Unearned money enters the bank
Gifts, inheritance, a rich Para moved in, or any windfall you didn't earn invalidates the million. Refuse or delete it the moment it appears.
Save-scumming a bad outcome
Reloading to undo a missed promotion, a fire or a heavy bill breaks the single-save rule. Live with the setback and earn your way out.
EA compatibility notes
Why this is the most EA-friendly challenge on the site.
- Rags to Riches is fully EA-compatible — it uses only careers, skills and home production that already ship.
- Careers are rabbit-hole shifts gated by Application Points; the in-game newspaper rotates listings daily.
- Skill income peaks at the Level 15 perk for now; the skill ceiling is Level 20.
- There's no stock market or property flipping yet, so income is wages, crafts and produce — plan the million around those.

Rags to Riches FAQ
The six questions players ask most about the Paralives Rags to Riches run.
- What's the win condition for Rags to Riches in Paralives?
- Reach 1,000,000 Paradimes in household funds, all earned without money cheats, starting from SETMONEY 0 on an empty lot. Some players set a lower target like 100,000 for a shorter run.
- Is SETMONEY 0 really the only allowed cheat?
- Yes. SETMONEY 0 zeroes your bank so you start broke. After that, every money command — PRINTMONEY, MAKEITRAIN, JACKPOT, PIGGYBANK, LOTTERY — is banned for the rest of the challenge.
- What's the fastest way to earn money in Paralives?
- Early on, a zero-Application-Point Service or Food job. Mid-game, a money skill like Painting or Cooking pushed to the Level 15 income perk. Late-game, stack a career with a maxed creative skill.
- Can I get a partner or have kids during the run?
- Yes, as long as they don't bring in unearned cash. A partner who works and earns is fine; moving in a wealthy Para to inherit their funds is not.
- Do build cheats break the challenge?
- Money-granting build cheats do. Free-placement and rotation cheats, which only change where objects sit and never your balance, are fine to use.
- How long does Rags to Riches take?
- A full million is a long grind — many in-game weeks and several real-time hours. The early survival phase is hardest; income snowballs once your main skill hits Level 15.
