TL;DR, the color legacy in one paragraph
Run a single bloodline across ten generations. Each heir owns one color, mint first and blue last, expressed through ParaMaker hair, makeup and clothing. Where the Sims 4 version hands each generation an aspiration plus a career, this Paralives version gives each color a career to master and a skill milestone to hit, since EA has no aspiration system. Bright skin is optional, that's the joke. Money cheats are allowed within reason, true to the original rules.
- Ten generations, ten colors, one bloodline
- Each heir styled in its color via ParaMaker
- Each color masters one EA career plus a skill goal
- Money cheats allowed within reason, like the original
The five core rules
Faithful to the lilsimsie and alwaysimming original where Paralives allows it, re-mapped where Early Access doesn't ship the Sims 4 feature a rule depended on.
- 1
One color per generation
Each heir must represent their generation's color through ParaMaker: hair, makeup, clothing, and ideally home decor. The ten colors run in order, mint, rose, yellow, gray, plum, orange, pink, peach, green, blue. Brightly colored skin is not required, these aren't actually berry Paras, that's the joke. Spouses are exempt, style them however you like.
- 2
One bloodline, normal aging
Pick one heir each generation and carry the family line for all ten. Play on the default Storyteller aging speed, single save file. The heir must be a biological or adopted child of the previous heir, and only their household funds carry over, no moving in a rich relative to skip a color.
- 3
Master the color's career and skill
Paralives has no aspiration system, so each color's Sims 4 aspiration is re-expressed as one EA career to master plus a skill milestone to hit. The full per-color goal sits in the generation ladder below. A generation is 'complete' when its heir reaches the top of the mapped career and the listed skill level.
- 4
Money cheats within reason
The original Not So Berry rules allow money cheats used sparingly (the classic suggestion is Free Real Estate). This version keeps that: light use of SETMONEY or PIGGYBANK to fund a color-accurate home is fine. Earning the money yourself is more satisfying, but it is not a fail like it is in Legacy or Rags to Riches.
- 5
EA substitutions are flagged
Where a Sims 4 career has no Paralives equivalent yet, the ladder uses the closest EA career and says so. The Criminal and Astronaut careers in particular don't ship in EA, so the orange and yellow generations use mapped substitutes. Swap back to the faithful career when Paralives adds it.
Generation ladder
Ten colors, ten generations
Each rung is one color generation. The career and skill goal is the Paralives re-map of that generation's Sims 4 aspiration and career; the original is noted so veterans can see the lineage.
Gen 1, Mint: Science
Found the family and master the Science career, pushing Astronomy or Biology to Level 15. The Sims 4 original is Scientist plus the Chief of Mischief aspiration, so lean mischievous: a prank-happy founder who lives in the lab.
Gen 2, Rose: Management
The romantic socialite. Master the Management career (the EA stand-in for Politician) and raise Charisma high enough to win proposals on the first card. Faithful to the original, the rose heir has only one child. Sims 4 origin: Politician plus Serial Romantic.
Gen 3, Yellow: Education
The studious loner. With no Astronaut career in EA, master Education instead and max a logic-leaning skill like Programming or Astronomy. Keep the heir socially withdrawn to honor the Loner trait. Sims 4 origin: Astronaut plus Nerd Brain.
Gen 4, Gray: Fitness
The athlete. Master the Fitness career and push Exercise (and a little Dance) to the cap. The Energetic vibe fits this generation cleanly. Sims 4 origin: Athlete plus Bodybuilder, traits Active, Slob, Music Lover.
Gen 5, Plum: Music and the all-rounder
The Renaissance heir. Master the Music career and dabble widely, max one instrument (Guitar, Piano or Triangle) plus Dance, and hold a second job at some point to honor the noncommittal, do-everything spirit. Sims 4 origin: Renaissance Sim plus Genius, Dance Machine.
Gen 6, Orange: Food
The self-assured glutton. The Sims 4 Criminal career has no EA equivalent, so master Food and max Cooking instead, the closest fit for the Glutton trait. Faithful to the original, the orange heir has no more than two children. Sims 4 origin: Criminal plus Public Enemy.
Gen 7, Pink: Art
The neat creative. Master the Art career and sell high-value paintings, pushing Painting or Graphic Design to Level 15, the EA way to honor the Best Selling Author goal. Keep the heir unflirty and tidy. Sims 4 origin: Business plus Best Selling Author.
Gen 8, Peach: Service and the Jester vibe
The lazy goofball. With no Detective career in EA, take the low-effort Service career and lean into the Jester vibe to honor the Joke Star aspiration, Jester is the closest EA mechanic to a comedian. Sims 4 origin: Detective plus Joke Star, traits Foodie, Lazy, Goofball.
Gen 9, Green: Software Development
The cheerful geek. Master the Software Development career and max Programming, the natural EA fit for the Tech Guru career and Computer Whiz aspiration. The highest-paying tech path doubles as the green heir's calling. Sims 4 origin: Tech Guru plus Computer Whiz.
Gen 10, Blue: Healthcare
The family-first finale. Master Healthcare (Surgery and Biology) as the nurturing EA stand-in for Super Parent, adopt at least one child, and let the heir carry the Gloomy vibe true to the original. Finish the bloodline here. Sims 4 origin: Critic plus Super Parent, trait Gloomy.
Strategy
How to keep ten colors on track
A color legacy lives or dies on planning. These four habits keep all ten generations distinct and on-goal.
Pre-pick your ParaMaker swatches
Before Gen 1, note which ParaMaker hair, eye and clothing swatches read as each of the ten colors. Locking the palette early stops mint and green blurring together by Gen 9 and keeps the family photo readable.
Pace the run with Storyteller aging
Ten generations is a long haul. Slow the Storyteller aging speed while an heir grinds their career, then speed it up to move through childhood. This keeps each color on screen long enough to finish its goal.
Bank Application Points before aging up
Each color owes a specific career. Have the teen heir build the relevant skill so they enter their mapped career at a higher rank the day they become a Young Adult, instead of starting at the bottom each generation.
Let autonomy raise the spares
Only the heir needs the color goal. Set non-heir children to autonomous so they raise themselves, freeing your clicks for the heir's career and skill grind.
When a generation doesn't count
Not So Berry is a low-stakes creative legacy, so most fails are soft. Only one truly ends the run.
The bloodline dies out before Gen 10
Every member of the household reaches Elder and dies with no child to continue the line. Hard fail, the legacy is over. Keep at least one heir candidate alive each generation.
An heir skips its color goal
The heir reaches Elder without mastering its mapped career and skill milestone. Soft fail, that generation doesn't count toward the ten, but you can continue the bloodline.
Playing off-color
Styling an heir in the wrong color or ignoring the palette defeats the whole point of the challenge. Not a mechanical fail, but the run stops being Not So Berry.
EA compatibility notes
How the classic color legacy maps onto Paralives Early Access.
- Paralives has no aspiration system, so each color's aspiration is re-expressed as a career to master plus a skill milestone.
- The Criminal and Astronaut careers aren't in EA; the orange and yellow generations use Food and Education as mapped stand-ins until those careers ship.
- Only five vibes ship in EA (Energetic, Gloomy, Jester, Overjoyed, Serious); color-vibe pairings beyond these are flavour, not requirements.
- ParaMaker swatches cover all ten colors for hair, eyes and clothing; brightly colored skin is optional, exactly as the original intended.
- Default Storyteller aging replaces the Sims 4 normal-lifespan rule; adjust the speed, not the rules.

Not So Berry FAQ
The six questions players ask most about running Not So Berry in Paralives.
- What is the Not So Berry challenge?
- A ten-generation color legacy created by lilsimsie and alwaysimming in 2017. Each generation is themed around one bright color and, in the original, a Sims 4 aspiration and career. It was designed to push players into parts of the game they normally skip.
- Does Not So Berry work in Paralives Early Access?
- Yes, with a re-map. The ten colors and the single bloodline carry over unchanged. Because EA has no aspirations and lacks several Sims 4 careers, each color is assigned an EA career to master plus a skill milestone instead.
- How are the Sims 4 aspirations and careers mapped to Paralives?
- Each generation gets the closest EA career and a skill goal, listed in the generation ladder. Where a career like Criminal or Astronaut has no EA equivalent, the ladder uses a flagged substitute (Food, Education) so the run still completes today.
- Do I have to use the exact ten colors?
- For a faithful run, yes: mint, rose, yellow, gray, plum, orange, pink, peach, green, blue, in that order. Brightly colored skin is optional, the colors live in hair, makeup, clothing and decor.
- Can I use money cheats in Not So Berry?
- Yes, within reason, true to the original rules. Light use of SETMONEY or PIGGYBANK to fund a color-accurate home is fine. Unlike Legacy or Rags to Riches, money cheats are not an automatic fail here.
- How long does a ten-generation color legacy take?
- Many real-time hours across multiple sessions. Each generation needs time to master a career and a skill, so most players run it over weeks, slowing and speeding Storyteller aging to pace each color.
